Keeping the Corners Clean

In my last blog I illustrated how sin creeps into our lives with the way weeds, honeysuckle and briars work their way in the corner of fields on a farm or piece of property. It takes constant attention to keep those pesky weeds at bay. Sin works the same way in our life, it spreads ever so slowly but surely. Last week we saw the place of prayer in keeping sin away. Prayer is so basic to a complete Christian life, but just as basic, is regular time spent in God’s Word the Holy Bible. Paul in his letter to the church at Rome, wrote that we are not to be conformed to the world but transformed, by the renewing of our minds. Studying God’s Word is a sure way to keep our minds focused on God and His will for our life.

My recommendation is to always start with one of the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke or John. Study the life of Jesus, focus on the red letter stuff in the Bible, it is all inspired by God but I love to read what Jesus has said. The Bible is a big book and not always easy reading. However, for the child of God that is willing to make it a lifelong endeavor, the dividends are great.

The Word of God is alive and powerful, sharper than any two edged sword. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable. Holy men of God wrote it as they were moved by the Holy Ghost, much the way a sailboat is moved by wind. If you are a child of God you have the author living inside you, so you can count on the fact that you will profit by reading His Word!

So keep those weeds out, Study to show yourself a workman, rightly dividing, correctly comprehending, and understanding the word of truth. Till next time……
